The towering idol is adorned with intricate gold jewellery and a jeweled crown and is seated on an ornate throne. A silver mouse is placed beside the idol, while the surrounding pandal features a Mahadev-inspired design with Shiva motifs and a Shivling.
The unveiling marks the beginning of the 93rd-year celebration of Lalbaugcha Raja. The trust behind the celebration was founded in 1934 and the annual festivities are expected to draw lakhs of visitors.
The celebrations will continue through Anant Chaturdashi on September 25, bringing devotees to the iconic Mumbai Ganpati as part of the city’s longstanding tradition of faith and community.
The first public darshan of the 2026 idol has once again placed Lalbaugcha Raja at the centre of Mumbai’s Ganesh festival, with its elaborate idol, ornate setting and Mahadev-inspired pandal marking the start of the celebrations.
